Backstage Conversations

I work for an indie record label as the product manager. If I try to explain the ins and outs of this position, my readers’ eyes will glaze over as they navigate away from this page faster than a gazelle on the savanna. Thus, I leave it at this: For any merchandise released by our label – be it a 12” vinyl record, ringtone or ticket to a show – I spent months shepherding that product through to completion.

The New Scarlet Letter

Syzygy issue

23 Mar

Hello to everyone who has still been checking this site for updates! You’re persistent. I love it. :)

Before the 2010 holidays, a friend recommended to me that I watch a film called Push. Note: She is not a close friend. She had no way of knowing about this site unless she stumbled across it in some auspicious google search, which makes this even more bizarre.

As for the movie, I did like it, and it now resides in my movie collection. However, I was disturbed by the similarity between the film and my work. It was eerie. I mean, I know both works are simply referencing the Greek myth, but for the love of all that is holy both main characters are named Cassie.

I made the decision to put the story on hiatus for a while because a) it felt distasteful even though I know I was not trying to copy/steal/counterfeit another person’s work; and b) I felt the movie was better, to be honest.

I will finish Syzygy at some point – no doubt with some hefty disclaimers attached – but right now I’m still too thrown by the whole experience to touch it for a while.

Just in case anyone was wondering where I’ve gone. :)
